Public Speaking
Over the last 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of sharing my story and doing other public speaking to several thousand people in diverse audiences. As the shy, introverted person that I am, speaking can be draining. But without fail, every time I do, people seem to be moved in some positive, and often unexpected ways. Perhaps it is selfish, but to see others walk away a little lighter, and a little closer to their own truths, is a reward that no one can place a value on.
My subject matter is one that makes many people uncomfortable: sexual and domestic violence; alcoholic parents; incest; child abuse; family secrets. But it is also one that lends itself to hope, forgiveness, healing and recovery. Which is all that I wish for anyone who grows up with a version of their family similar to ours. Every child deserves to be raised in a healthy family. And we all have a role to play in that.
